YES Startup Camp | Brizzy Bees Entrepreneurship Camp
Loris, SC — Twenty students from Green Sea, SC and Loris, SC participated in a weeklong summer camp to learn the principles of entrepreneurship. The Brizzy Bees Entrepreneurship Camp, named for the characteristics of perseverance, hard work, and community that entrepreneurs share with bees, offered opportunities for area youth to learn entrepreneurial skills and promote small business ownership. The camp was held July 29th – August 2nd at Capture Inc. Community Center in Loris, South Carolina.
YEScarolina certified educator Monica Brisbon facilitated the camp in her hometown, having personal experience with how programs like these can positively affect young people in the community. Brisbon currently teaches entrepreneurship with the YEScarolina curriculum at Carolina Forest High School.
Students chose a business idea that solves a problem they identified. Through interactive activities, they learned concepts such as target market and consumer profile, supply and demand related to the economy, how to perform market research, promote products and services, complete a SWOT and Industry analysis, business financials such as economics of one unit, variable cost, fixed cost, breakeven units, return on investment and return on sales.
Students presented their idea to judges on Friday, August 2nd. The top 3 winners received seed money for their business. The top 2 will compete at the YEScarolina State Business Plan competition in May of 2020. In its first year, the camp aims to expand and provide field trips to enhance real world experiences of business ownership and careers in the future.
