Over 630 guests rock ‘n’ rolled the night away at the sold out YEScarolina 6th Annual Gala on Thursday, October 22nd at the new Gaillard Center. In addition to the annual gala being YEScarolina’s only fundraiser, it is a celebration of the youth entrepreneurship students and teacher from the 2014-2015 school year. The top eleven South Carolina entrepreneurship students displayed their businesses and networked with guests. The students were presented with awards throughout the evening and Caleb Milligan of West Ashley High School was named 2015 Student of the Year, sponsored by Atlantic Coast Advisory Group. Courtney Worley of Wando High School was awarded the 2015 Teacher of the Year, sponsored by Paul Hulsey.
The evening was complete with h’ordeuvres and a three course dinner by Halls Chophouse and Duvall Events. Following the live and silent auction, guests danced to the Emerald Empire Band. YEScarolina is proud to report that this year the event raised $450,000 for youth entrepreneurship programs in South Carolina.
This year the second annual Kathy Elsner Spirit Scholarship was presented to Aquila Brown for $2,500. Another notable award presented was the 3rd annual, Ronald Motley Memorial Award, to an entrepreneurship student, Ryan Jans of Wando High School. Ryan, who has cerebral palsy, overcame his challenges to successfully understand, write, and present his business plan. The award is named for Ron’s unconditional support of the YEScarolina programs. This award honors a student that has succeeded while faced with a health or physical challenge and embodies the big heart Ron had. Check out the video to hear from Ryan & his teacher Courtney Worley first hand.
The 6th Annual YEScarolina gala was made possible by presenting and event sponsors Baker Motor Company, Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union, Atlantic Coast Advisory Group, Halls Chophouse, Philanthropist Paul Hulsey, Elliott Davis Decosimo, Advantage Media Group, PDA, & Charleston Florist.
