Maria Williams | Fort Dorchester High School

Maria Williams always knew she wanted to teach high school business and computer courses because those were the courses she enjoyed most when she was at Summerville High School. In fact, it was an internship with Westvaco Corporation her senior year of high school that led her back there after graduating the College of Charleston in 1988. She worked for Westvaco Corporation for 13 years in various positions in Accounting, Customer Service, Personnel, Public Relations, Research, and Training. After receiving her teaching certificate, she started teaching at Fort Dorchester High School in 2001 and is now in her 17th year.

Teaching allows Williams to provide some of the same opportunities she had to her students. She also enjoys passing on some of her business world experiences, exposing students to real-world situations to inspire them not only academically, but also personally. Maria Williams teaches to help students achieve their best, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.
