Accomplishments

  • To date, YEScarolina has trained over 900 teachers on the subject of entrepreneurship who have, in turn, touched the lives of thousands of young people.
  • Over 17,000 young South Carolinians have written a business plan as a result of our teacher training program
  • 2009 Alumni, Chandler Bolt named among the top “30 Under 30 Entrepreneurs” by Influencive. Bolt, at age 22, is a five-time bestselling author and owner of the Self-Publishing School.
  • Ashlynn Ruleman of Ashley Ridge High School named 2016 Earnst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year—Young Entrepreneur Award for the Southeast
  • June 14, 2016—YEScarolina hosts the 1st Ever Middle School Statewide Business Plan Competition, presented by Bank of America.
  • YEScarolina Founder, Jimmy Bailey, honored as the “Go-to Uplifter of Everyone” in the 2016 Westie Awards
  • For the 2015-2016 School Year, YEScarolina pilots two after school programs for middle school students:
  • Chick-fil-A Biz Camp at Military Magnet Academy
  • Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation Biz Camp at Buist Academy
  • YEScarolina is honored amongst 25 nominated organizations from across the nation as one of Chick-fil-A Foundation’s 2015 True Inspiration Award Winners in the Youth Entrepreneurship category.
  • For the 2015-2016 school year, YEScarolina is proud to partner with Laing Middle School of Science & Technology to pilot a new NFTE program, “STEM StartUp” empowering students to conceive of an original technology-based business idea, and teach the skills needed to build their concept.
  • YEScarolina Alumna, Griffin Thomas of Anderson, SC opens her own restaurant, Griff’s Gourmet Garage.
  • YEScarolina and the Harbor Entrepreneur Center join forces to cultivate young entrepreneurs through the Student Harbor Accelerator Mentorship Program helping those students eager to move their business ventures forward.
  • At the 5th Annual Gala, YEScarolina announced the launch of the campaign for the YEScarolina Entrepreneurship Center.
  • Two YEScarolina students were awarded the “Most Creative Marketing Tactics” for the NFTE Elevator Pitch Contest, Aquila Brown of TruSol Art, in 2013 and Caleb Milligan of Caleb Alexander: The Next Generation of Magic, in 2015.
  • In 2014, YEScarolina awarded $5,000 worth of scholarships
    • Jesse Horine receives first annual Sigma Chi Scholarship
    • Kesha Rainey receives the first annual Kathy Elsner Spirit Scholarship to honor our beloved board member, Kathy Elsner, who passed away December 8, 2013.
  • In October 2014, two YEScarolina students competed in the NFTE (Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship) National Business Plan Competition among 40 others from around the country, hosted in Silicon Valley, CA. Both, Jesse Horine, Fort Mill, SC, and Dekeiya Cohen, Charleston, SC placed in the semifinals with 12 others.
  • For the first time in YEScarolina history, one of our students, Jesse Horine, placed 2nd in the NFTE National Business Plan Competition in Silicon Valley. This experience opened doors beyond his wildest dreams including the door to the White House and the opportunity to meet The President of the United States!
  • In the spring of 2014, YEScarolina hosted the Sea Islands Adult Biz Camp on John’s Island.
  • YEScarolina student, Adam Zerbst, wins 2013 international NFTE Daniel Treanor Award
  • YEScarolina published two books – 4 editions of “The Spirit of Outreach: Igniting Ideas Through Community Involvement ” the inspiring stories of 75 of our young entrepreneurs and “Teachers Reaching Out: 25 Dedicated Souls Who Have Changed the Lives of Young Entrepreneurs,” a testament to the dedication and passion of our trained teachers.
  • 2012 Leavey Award, Excellence in Private Enterprise – Awarded by Freedom Foundation for The Marion County Entrepreneurship Pilot Program for Unemployed Adults. Among the participants, 3 have successfully started a business.
  • In 2012, YEScarolina started in school, countywide and statewide business plan competitions to allow more visibility for students, increase student confidence and involve members of the community. Winning students are given seed money to invest in their business.
  • In 2012, YEScarolina started a guest speaker initiative, bringing youth entrepreneur role models from all over the country in to speak with students and inspire them to follow their dreams.
  • YEScarolina has been named Licensee of the Year by program partner Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE).
  • Our Executive Director, Jimmy Bailey, has been awarded the Selfless Community Giving Award by the Coastal Community Foundation; The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Picture Award by the Senate of South Carolina for going above and beyond the call of duty, improving the quality of life for the residents in the community and keeping the dream of Dr. King alive; and the 50 Most Progressive Award by Charlie Magazine.
  • 2020 Vision Pacesetter – The Barbara H James Awards to honor those career & technology educators who have made outstanding contributions to career & technology education in SC at the 2009 Education & Business Summit
  • The Rose Kids Business Camp helped the City of Charleston win the 2009 City Livability Award, 1st place in the Large City category, awarded by US Conference of Mayors. This is the highest honor that can be awarded to a city.
