In 2014, Cario Middle School student and Cario Biz Club member Olivia Crosby suffered a brain tumor. Going in and out of MUSC Children’s Hospital for various blood tests was undoubtedly trying, but Olivia’s admirable positivity during her time there lead to an incredible business opportunity that has allowed her to give back to help other children in similar situations. She, with her business partner Maya Khaskhely, founded Next Step, a company that sells stress balls, slime, and animal stress balls to help patients through their own experiences. We are so proud of these young women!
From March 6 through April 6, Olivia and Maya raised $600 from their sales. This past Wednesday, April 19th, the ladies presented MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund with a $500 check. The remaining $100 was donated to their middle school business club, Cario Biz Club.
Also present at the check presentation was Cario student and Biz Club member Sam Sy. His company, Little Sy Chef, began out of his passion for all things culinary. Though still just in middle school, Sam is accomplished in his own right, having been featured on Fox’s MasterChef Junior last year, where he finished in the Top 10 out of all competitors!
We are thrilled to see the accomplishments of these young entrepreneurs, and are looking forward to their upcoming competition. It will be hosted by their Biz Club at Cario Middle on May 26 at 7-8am. They have been invited to YEScarolina’s Regional and State Business Plan Competitions, and we are looking forward to hear them share their stories!
Keep up the good work, students! We’re excited to see where your futures as entrepreneurs take you.
