Earlier this month, Spring Valley High School hosted the 2011 YEScarolina Midlands Youth Entrepreneurship Conference on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, in the school’s auditorium.
Participants heard the passionate testimony of motivational speaker Rodney Walker. At the age of four, Walker and his siblings entered the foster care system in Chicago, Ill.; over the course of 13 years he was placed in 15 different homes. Inspired by an entrepreneurship class in high school, Walker started his own business and is now an honor roll sophomore at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga. He shared his inspirational story with participating students from Joseph Keels Elementary and Aiken and Spring Valley high schools.
The event was a great success and we wanted to share the following thank you email from one of our wonderful entrepreneurship teachers. Receiving emails like this, help make our hard work worth it!
I pray all is well and pray you had a Blessed trip back to Atlanta. I thank God for you and all that HE has done for you, WOW!! First of all it was more than and honor to meet you and to be able to listen to your story. You have no idea how many lives you touched by your story at Dutch Fork High School. Not only did you touch the lives of the students but the staff, administration and faculty was also very moved by your story. You would be surprised how many students have similar stories to yours and feel like they have no hope but you came on Friday and gave hundreds of students hope to let them know that they can do whatever they put their minds too.
Also you made the students that have the resources you didn’t have appreciate them and want to help others who do not have what they have. As I said you have change the mindset of so many people and I thank God for you and I pray that HE will continue to use you for His Glory to show young people that all things are possible with God.
Again I thank you for coming to share your story and I will be praying for your safe travel as you go and tell your story all around the nation to motivate young people. Also I will be praying for your last year at Morehouse and if there is anything that DFHS can do for you now or in the future please don’t hesitate to let me know.
I will be sending you pictures and I will see if I can send the video and interview also for a part of your portfolio.
